Description

Builders Circle Dinner—a special joint event hosted by the HBCA’s General Contractors Council and the Home Builders Council. We are honored to welcome Melanie S. Griffin, Esq., Secretary, Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) Secretary Griffin has been a leading voice in Florida’s efforts to protect homeowners, businesses, and the construction industry from the risks posed by unlicensed contractors. Under her leadership, DBPR has launched decisive enforcement operations targeting unlicensed activity and partnered with local and statewide agencies to hold bad actors accountable and educate the public on the importance of hiring licensed professionals. Unlicensed building contractors cause real and measurable harm to our industry, homeowners, and communities. They undercut legitimate professionals by avoiding licensing fees, insurance, taxes, and compliance requirements—leading to unfair competition and significant safety and financial risks. At the Builders Circle Dinner, Secretary Griffin will share her insights and progress in the ongoing fight against unlicensed contracting and the impact these efforts have on protecting consumers and supporting ethical builders.
